Web Browser Info

What is a browser?
A browser, usually called a web browser, allows for a person to access the internet. It is a piece of software that is downloaded to one’s computer. When the software is opened it allows a person to surf the web.  A browser is the key to surfing the internet, it makes it possible. Internet Explorer is the most common browser on personal computers; however, competition from other browsers is on the rise.
Which browser do you use most often?
I use Internet Explorer most often. I do have Firefox, but I find I just like Internet Explorer better because I am more familiar with it. I also might hold a nostalgic soft spot for it.
What are the 4 most popular browsers?
The most popular browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.

Social Media - Good or Bad for the Classroom

Two Scenarios about social media in the classroom -

1.      Some schools do not allow to teachers to access some sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Explain why they are wrong and give reasons/examples.
You cannot avoid social media. You cannot outlaw it in the classroom. This new technology is everywhere. People are going to use it. It would be like trying to stop  a river with one sponge. I agree that people, teachers and students, should be taught how to use this social media appropriately. Besides, technology can benefit students in the classroom. Teachers can make Facebook pages for their classrooms, where only those invited can join. These pages can allow for students to communicate. The pages can also remind the students when certain assignments are due. Technology cannot be contained or stopped by forbidding accesses. Technology should be embraced, taught, and understood so everyone can use it appropriately.
2..      Some schools do not allow to teachers to access some sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Explain why they are correct and give reasons/examples.
Social media can quickly run amok with our lives. People can share too much information on these websites, such as Facebook. They can post inappropriate pictures of themselves. In addition students or teachers can post jokes that lose their meaning online and now are seen as offensive. People tend to see the internet and social media as allowing them some anonymity in the world. They post and write things they think people won’t see. They are wrong and will be held responsible for posting questionable material. In addition, bullying has become a huge issue lately. Many teens have committed suicide after being bullied in the classroom and online. Megan Meier and Tyler Celmenti killed themselves after being harassed. Therefore it is not a bad idea to limit students and teachers use of social media.

Vanishing Technology

I think personal music players will vanish. I think they will be replaced by the iPhone and other smartphones. Mp3 players and iPods will no longer be used fifty years in the future.  People can listen to music and watch videos on their smartphones. The phones are only slightly larger than personal music players. The smartphones can also allow that person to take calls and search the internet. I think technology is moving towards items that can multitask. Items that only do one thing will become extinct. We, as a society, are always on the move and want to travel light. We use equipment that is light and allows for multiple uses. The once fascinating and amazing iPod will be outdated and forgotten in fifty years. I believe the Mac Company will still be around and still fostering people to embrace technology in new ways. It will move towards technology that can be used in multiple ways.

Good Articles

I found several articles and the information about childhood issues is extensive. Here 4 sites that I found most infomative.

The below link will take you a site that describes bibliotherapy. The website describes what bibliotherapy is and how it is used. The site provides examples of cases when bibliotherapy should be used, examples include divorce, death, and children with special needs.

My second link is brought to you by PRB. The cite is a question and answer session about childhoold poverty. The questions cover a wide range of topics. They discuss how poverty affects children, how certain government programs either help or hinder the poor, and they discuss the link between  crime and poverty.

My third link discusses the differences between child psychologists Piaget and Vygotsky. As students we hear alot about these two, so this site is great to outline Vygotsky's ideas. The site particularly focuses on Lev Vygotsky and his theory of zone of proximal development. The website also discusses Vygotsky's views on cultural development and child development.

My fourth link focuses on childhood depression. The site outlines that all children can become depressed and it differs by degress. The site also outlines symptoms, causes, and treatments. I like this website because it brings light to a un-otherwise unseen condition.
